Paper Mache Venice

The Technique of Venetian paper mache

You start by modeling a block of clay, when you got the desired form
we make a plaster cast to obtain a mold (negative).

Then spreads with glue the wet paper, which will then be torn in short strips
and layered inside of the mold. Once dried and removed from the mold,
it's painted with a thin layer of plaster and white tempera paint.

After that it's ready to be decorated. To protect the paper mache and the decoration,
there are many techniques for finishing and varnishing.

This is a technique that allows the masks to be worn,
but also make it robust,  light, flexible and adherent.
